Program
Novgorod University carries out a project – "Winter University" in the specialization "Electronics, Radio Engineering and Communication Systems" for the students of engineering specialties from Russia and foreign countries.
The aim of the project is to strengthen international cooperation and establish contacts between young engineers from different countries.
The project will involve 200 future engineers, including: students of Schools of Advanced Engineering Studies, students of universities of Belarus, BRICS countries and neighboring countries.
The program of the “Winter University” project consists of educational, project and cultural blocks. The partners of the project are industrial enterprises of the Novgorod region: Akron, NPC Akron Engineering, OKB-Planeta, NPK SPP, Elsi, CSRI Cyclone.
Language: Russian and English.
The educational and project blocks are implemented in 6 thematic tracks:
- Modeling of virtual reality objects,
- Unmanned aircraft systems and satellite technologies,
- Systems for automatic design of complexes for locating objects and environments,
- Development of systems using neural network technologies,
- Development of automatic control systems,
- Technologies of information modeling of industrial facilities.
The project block is implemented under the guidance of experienced mentors and project consultants. Teams of participants of the “Winter University” will develop engineering solutions within the thematic tracks. All activities are organized in the project logic: generation of project ideas, definition of the project’s target audience, development of technical specifications, hypothesis testing, study of analogues and competitors of the project, analysis of scientific and technical information, project review, demo day with presentation of the engineering solution.
Activities of the cultural block of the Program: “QUIZ”, “Flatparty”, excursions around the Novgorod land, workshops, sports and cultural events.
We invite students studying engineering specialties, interested in electronics, radio engineering and communication systems, wishing to acquire project competencies in the “innovative heart” of the City-University, as well as to get to know Veliky Novgorod as one of the oldest cities in Russia, the birthplace of Russian statehood, a place that preserves unique traditions of bookishness, education and Russian culture to participate in the “Winter University” project.
Educational block
Modeling of virtual reality objects
The module is designed for beginner 3D modelers
During the training, students will learn how to work with Blender, gain knowledge of the basic pipeline for developing 3D content, its timing and stages; what UV unwrapping is and what it is needed for.
Unmanned aircraft systems and satellite technologies
The program covers lectures and practical materials in the field of application of unmanned aircraft systems and satellite technologies in the practice of rational use of natural resources, urban development, land cadastre, geodesy and cartography. Review of design features, technical and flight operation of unmanned aircraft systems of multirotor and aircraft types.
Practical classes on processing aerial photography materials, construction of three-dimensional models of terrain, buildings and structures, work in geoinformation systems.
Systems for automatic design of complexes for locating objects and environments
The program examines the basic principles of building complexes for the location of objects and environments, with an in-depth study of automated design systems for electronic modules, units, and boards. Development of electrical circuit diagrams, printed circuit board routing, creation of final files to produce printed circuit boards.
Practical classes on mastering the automated design package for electronic products.
Development of systems using neural network technologies
The program covers the basic principles of using neural networks, using the Nvidia Jetson hardware platform. Students in this program work with both pre-trained neural networks and train them themselves. The NVIDIA Jetson developer toolkit is ideal for teaching, learning, and developing AI and robotics. The set opens the world of AI and robotics to everyone, providing software and tools that underlie advanced AI-based solutions in all industries. During studying the program, scripts for image processing are developed in Python.
Development of automated control systems
The program examines the basic principles of constructing automation systems based on programmable logic integrated circuits (PLIC). The main methods of implementing control and monitoring circuits are studied. Development takes place in an automated design environment, for which the main tools and instruments for creating systems are considered.
Technologies of information modeling of industrial facilities
The program examines the basic principles of creating digital information models of buildings and structures for existing and new projects (PIM and AIM).
Project block
The project block involves teamwork of the “Winter University” participants on projects, where each project team will develop and implement one of 6 tracks in the laboratories of the School of Advanced Engineering Studies of Novgorod University:
- Modeling of virtual reality objects,
- Unmanned aircraft systems and satellite technologies,
- Systems for automatic design of complexes for the location of objects and environments,
- Development of systems using neural network technologies,
- Development of automated control systems,
- Technologies of information modeling of industrial facilities.
Each team will be accompanied by an experienced mentor from the Project-Based Learning School of Novgorod University (the main function is to provide the framework of the project logic of the team's work) and a consultant from one of the laboratories of the School of Advanced Engineering Studies (the main function is to provide the substantive framework of the project).
Project block program:
- trends and problems in modern engineering knowledge (speakers from enterprises of the modern electronic industry and the School of Advanced Engineering Studies of Novgorod University)
- generation of project ideas (conducted by the School of Project-Based Learning within 6 tracks based on the identified trends and problems);
- work on the project (independent work of the team on the project is provided within the framework of the implementation of the entire block in the project coworking and on the team's sites in the laboratories of the School of Advanced Engineering Studies);
- target audience of the project (overview lecture and group work in teams);
- development of technical specifications (introductory settings and development of technical specifications of the project);
- hypothesis testing (game technologies, teamwork, speech and discussion of the hypothesis);
- study of analogues and competitors of the project (overview lecture and teamwork);
- analysis of scientific and technical information (overview lecture and teamwork);
- expert day (presentation of intermediate results of the project to the expert commission, recommendations for revision);
- project refinement (teamwork);
- demo day (presentation of the results of the engineering project implementation with the presence of industrial partners of the “Winter University” as a commission, selection of the best projects).
